June meeting

The theme was BODY PARTS with the session starting off with one of the great pop records of the 1980's - George Michael's WAKE ME UP BEFORE YOU GO GO  - a June number one from exactly  40 years ago. Following the 'Jitterbug' chant and the opening line  'You put the boom boom in my heart'  the song takes off  in the second verse with the endearing line   'you make the sun shine brighter than Doris Day.' A dance floor classic. Anne recalled that her 13 year old daughter was regularly told to turn that record down!'  An eclectic mix of records followed, the theme closing with ROBERTA FLACK'S The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, picked up and promoted by Clint Eastwood for his film Play Misty For Me. Incidentally (I said I would check) the record was written by Ewan MacColl.

As a thank you to TRICIA STEWART for her  memorable visit three weeks ago I suggested that we have a collection in support of the LEUKAEMIA and LYMPHOMA RESEARCH UK.  I am delighted to say that yesterday we raised £149.50 - a huge thank you to everyone who contributed. I will pass on the money accordingly and send a message to Tricia.

Due to the forthcoming holiday season and the Whitburn ground being used for various activities the provisional date for next music session will be on MONDAY 12th AUGUST.

The theme will be summer sounds plus a juke box lucky dip where  your record suggestions are written down, put into a box, then pulled out one at a time and then played.
